In your New Testament you would find all about that Last Supper told over and over again--four times. Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament was to be everything
to our souls, and so He has seen to it that we shall be told with greatest care what He did for us on that night. We are told how they ate the little lamb which had been sacrificed, and which was a type of the Sacrifice of the Cross, to take place on the morrow. We are told how sad our dear Lord was ; there is something peculiarly terrifying in the sadness of Him who is the source of all our joy. When He is sad, to whom can we turn for happiness? I will take just the Gospel account of what happened next. St. Luke says
"And taking bread. He gave thanks, and broke, and gave to them, saying, This is My Body, which is given for you.
DO THIS FOR A COMMEMORATION OF ME
In like manner the chalice also, after He had supped, saying. This is the chalice, the new testament in My Blood, which shall be shed for you." With those simple words, "This is My Body," He, who by a word had wrought creation, gave to us His most wonderful gift of Himself, and when He said, "Do this in commemoration of Me," He made His first priests, who would see that the Body of Christ never failed us. . . . .
